Constitutional facial acupuncture, also known as "constitutional facial rejuvenation," is a method of moderating the effects of aging through Chinese medicine, including acupuncture, cupping, topical herbal applications, and massage. Through this variety of modalities, the intention is to soften lines, tone your skin, and revitalize your face. |
Why "Constitutional?"
As the face is a reflection of the overall health of your body, your constitution is treated as well as your face during each facial acupuncture session. The channels running through your body also extend to your head and face, thus points are selected on your arms and legs which will support the goals of treatment.

What is included in the treatment process?
A facial acupuncture treatment is similar to other acupuncture and Chinese medicine sessions. An initial assessment is made of your current state of health through a detailed interview along with pulse and tongue diagnoses. Depending on your current needs, needles are inserted at select points on your arms and legs. While resting with this initial set of needles, you will receive a customized facial herbal mask to support your skin health as well as a Shiatsu-style neck massage to open the channels between your body and head. Needles will then be used directly at key points on your face based on your needs and treatment goals. Following the acupuncture component of the treatment a toning herbal mask is applied followed by additional facial massage and gentle facial cupping.

What are the contraindications to facial acupuncture treatments?
If you have had recent facial surgeries (including surgical facelifts) or Botox injections within the past six months we would need to discuss the best approach in support of your overall health. The effect of acupuncture is to rejuvenate the face with qi (energy) and fluids; Botox works by doing the opposite. If acupuncture is used in areas which were recently injected with Botox there is a risk of enlivening the tissue, resulting in possible facial asymmetry if part of the face remains paralyzed by Botox. While limited facial acupuncture is still possible if you've recently received Botox injections, it is very important that you are able to identify the exact muscles which were injected so we are able to work around those during your sessions.
